Stuedemann, 84, of Clinton, IA,
died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center, Clinton, IA.
Services will be held at Elvira
Zion Lutheran
Church on Wednesday, July
30, 2008, at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, July 29,
2008 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in the Center Grove Cemetery.
Walter was born
December 25, 1923 in rural Clinton
County, the son of Alfred
and Alfrieda (Rockrohr)
Stuedemann. He was a 1943 Elvira
High School graduate. He
married Darlene Dethmann September 30, 1945 at Zion Lutheran
Church in Clinton.
Walter farmed his entire life until retiring in 1998. He volunteered at the Clinton County
4-H Fair. He converted a travel trailer into a lunch wagon for the Lions Club
to provide food at farm auctions and for non-for-profit organizations, and he
also built a portable whole hog rotisserie and cooked for many non-for-profit
events. He was awarded Outstanding Young farmer in 1957 by the Clinton Jaycees.
He received an award for outstanding 4-H leader. He received the 2002 Warren
Coleman Honorary Award for dedicated service, awarded by the Iowa Lions
Foundation. He was the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Honoree of the Bulldog Club of
America (BCA). He was the President of Division 6 of the BCA, and was inducted into
the BCA Breeder Hall of Fame. He was a member of Elvira
Zion Lutheran
Church and was the 1957 council
president and treasurer of Elvira
Zion Lutheran
Church. He was a Charter
Member of the Low Moor Lions Club, past president from 1984-1985, and had 28
years of perfect attendance at their bimonthly meetings. He was the past
president of the Clinton County Beef Producers. He was a past board director of
C & J Farm Service. Over the course of his life he donated 13 gallons of
blood to the Red Cross. He was an avid bicyclist and rode in Ragbrai many times. In addition to his many memberships and
awards, he was married to his wife Darlene for over 50 years, he provided a
loving home for his children Ross, Renee, and Reed, and always continued to
have a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his
wife Darlene, of Clinton; children: Ross (Judith) Stuedemann of Oxford, IA,
Renee Stuedemann of Chicago, IL, and Reed (Susan) Stuedemann of East Peoria,
IL; grandchildren: Justin (Anne) Stuedemann of Kansas City, MO, Jesse
Stuedemann of East Peoria, IL, and Sara Stuedemann of East Peoria, IL;
brothers: Lawrence Stuedemann of DeWitt, IA, and Howard Stuedemann of
Atascadero, CA; and sister-in-law Betty Stuedemann of Clinton. In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant grandson Jordan, infant
sister Irene, his brother Earl and sister-in-laws Valeria, Donna, and Delores
Stuedemann. Memorials may be made to Elvira
Zion Lutheran
Church.
